For a long time I have been enthusiastic about the idea of teaching and inspired by those around me who are teachers. I initially developed an interest in teaching, watching my mother (who has been a teacher aide for most of my life) and the passion she has for her students, schools and teaching which gave me great insight into the teacher I want to be. She works incredibly hard and never wavers in her love for teaching, even when she is faced with long nights and impossible situations. She is the kind of teacher I want to be.
I began a love for teaching when I was in primary school myself, after having an incredible teacher that initiated a curiosity in me. She was always beautifully interactive, made her classes feel safe and to this day someone I know I can count on. I thought if I could influence people like she had me, I would adore my profession.
I strive to be a compassionate teacher that creates a welcoming environment like those I have been inspired by. Aside from my teaching qualifications, I have a Bachelor of Arts in 2022, majoring in Classics and Education. My classics background portrays one of my biggest interests which is history, particularly ancient history.
I am a lover of arts and crafts (another influence from my mother), music and creative writing. I adore being able to let my imagination take over. I am on my tikanga Māori journey. I know I have much to learn, particularly with the language of Te Reo. However, I have always loved learning the language, waiata, haka and culture, and am loving leading in this space at MMS.
I am well aware of how important celebrating our cultures are in Aotearoa. They are all incredibly beautiful and I believe the entwining of every culture will lead to a greater New Zealand. It is the belief that every person and every culture has a new perspective and a valuable idea to contribute.
